Rongotai Athletics - Who is the next legend? 07/03/2008
Commentsjeff king Thu, 03 Jul 2008 19:07:32 for me there are a number of legends i want to mention. they are not necessarily boys who have broken records on the track although a number of them have had some memorable performances. names like fasil defersha, james glass, robert millar, tala eni spring to mind. they were faithful, hard-working and dedicated at a time when we were really in a slump and at the bottom of the heap. year after year they did the hard work and inspired others to get involved in athletics at rongotai. cheers boys. Sun, 06 Jul 2008 18:05:25 Some legends in my time here at Rongotai are Shaka Sola and Fale Seve. These two went neck and neck against each other in discus and shot put and then took on the best at McEvedy generally coming out on top. They were pretty quick on the track also. David Young who left all in his wake in the Javelin. A quiet unassuming young man who shone in this field event. What about a plug for the coaches Chris Wells (winner 1989)and Jeff King (third 2007) come to mind. Both individuals made great personal sacrifices to get their teams fit and motivated for the McEvedy Shield. Mon, 07 Jul 2008 15:54:54 I have to agree that the likes of Chris Wells should have a mention. He was an important factor in the success of Rongotai Athletics when we won in 89. Robert Mcneill, Richard Parkinson are also strong names from that period. Dylan Patel Tue, 15 Jul 2008 16:55:04 I think the likes of felix filipo and james glass were legends in the regard that although they may not have won every year and out performed everyone they showed what the true R.C spirit is about and in my mind that is what an R.C legend should be. Dan Coronno Thu, 24 Jul 2008 22:20:49 Personally I believe that all the previous McEvedy Captains would be considered legends, maybe a seperate page for them would be a good idea? James Glass Tue, 29 Jul 2008 21:34:33 Jeff King is the real legend for me. He is the most euphoric in success and the one who takes it hardest in defeat- this shows that he cares and his passion and spirit are unyielding. Personally I never would have competed in McEvedy or cross-country if it weren't for Jeff and I think the same is true for a lot of boys. He's also pretty quick too! anonymous Wed, 03 Sep 2008 15:29:21 i think David Titi will win 100m at the 09 mcevedy Dan Coronno Sun, 14 Dec 2008 21:26:26 2008 nationals team yeaya!
